Mps get free beer – That’s explains why they keep raising beer duty

So the last of the news from last weeks parliamentary event has just trickled in and its a nice puff piece about the Mps enjoying the beer of this years International beer awards. these beer ranged from from a 2.8% ABV mild to an 11.5% ABV Belgian style strong ale, the featured winners highlighted the diversity of beers that enter and succeed in the awards.

Ruth Evans, director of Brewing Technology Services, which organises the competition, said: “The historic cut in beer duty announced in this year’s Budget demonstrated the importance of reaching out to Parliamentarians with positive messages about beer, so we were delighted to have a presence at the Beer Group’s dinner.

“We hope that the MPs who tasted our medal winners were reminded of the wonderful variety of styles and tastes that beer can offer, and we look forward to returning with a selection of winners from our next competition, in 2015.”

The winning beers offered to guests at the dinner were:

  • Lord Lieutenant’s Porter (Chiltern Brewery)
  • Bengal Lancer (Fullers)
  • Manns Brown Ale (Marston’s)
  • Inferno (Oakham Ales)
  • Smugglers Grand Cru (St Austell Brewery)
  • Landlord (Timothy Taylor).
